AquaMinds Software Announces Availability of NoteTaker 1.1
Information processing application advancing rapidly

New update includes more than 25 new features,
improvements and optimizations

For Immediate Release (Palo Alto, CA - February 17, 2003) - AquaMinds Software Corporation, announced today that NoteTaker, version 1.1 is now shipping and available for download. The new update is free to all registered users directly from the company's web site. Additionally, the trial version now runs for 30 days and all current demo users are welcome to download the latest version today.

"Since our initial product introduction 60 days ago, we've been working on adding a number of new product features, improvements and optimizations. The user feedback has been diverse as well as insightful so we appreciate the dynamic range of feature requests. NoteTaker is shaping up to becoming a daily "must-have" application especially for users who want to organize their notes, Internet research, files and outlines in one place, " said Scott Love, President of AquaMinds Software Corporation.

"Clearly, there is a wealth of creative energy and application knowledge among our users. They are designing custom notebooks, templates, scripts and information applications daily. It's exciting to see what they're doing with NoteTaker. Our user list already includes students, researchers, scientists, teachers, doctors, consultants, project managers, artists, photographers, writers and even hobbyists. They tell us they are using NoteTaker in their professional work, planning and projects. They are organizing "their" information in their digital notebooks their way. Our job is to make sure NoteTaker makes their work easier, more productive and even more fun with each release. Development work has already started on the next update and it's going to introduce some new technology and new UI architecture that will advance NoteTaker to another level from where we are even now, said Love.

"I haven't experienced this much excitement in outline and personal information processing technology since my early days working at Living Videotext when we first introduced MORE. It's simply a great productivity category and even when Millennium Software (I was co-founder and co-designer) brought NoteBook for NeXTSTEP to market, there weren't nearly as many synergies with the OS as there are now. Plus, you can see how web facilities are becoming transparent as well. Apple's OS X platform provides tremendous flexibility and it's getting better by the day (voice memos, rich in-line QuickTime media, Web integration, data integration, AppleScript, Web publishing for the rest of us, etc.). We are technically about a year ahead of Microsoft's OneNote for Windows (not shipping yet) and already working on a new technology code-named SilverStar that will appear at the end of this year. Our team has been developing new technology from day one and we will continue to deliver it. We think users will love where we're going with the SilverStar technology."

Information Processing Power Every Day

NoteTaker 2003 for OS X is personal productivity software designed for daily use. With NoteTaker, you can quickly and easily take notes, manage project plans, create simple full screen slide presentations, drag or clip information from other applications (or use NoteTaker Services), index and search notebooks, publish and share information, add voice memos, and, best of all, customize it to fit your digital lifestyle, your information workstyle.

For some tasks, generating a long document is not required and yet there is a need to capture information, organize and process it. Making an outline or creating a list are both examples of tasks that don't necessarily require a word processor and yet the idea of electronic paper for jotting down notes is useful and convenient. Even the capture, retrieval, and organization of random information throughout the day is another example of the need NoteTaker fills.

NoteTaker is an ideal tool for working with unstructured, on-the-fly information you create, organize or gather daily. Using it can be as simple as making lists or as complex as organizing a notebook full of personal notes and pages of information. As NoteTaker's visual metaphor of an electronic spiral notebook with section tabs suggests, there is always the need to find and to retrieve information at anytime without the complexity or the overhead of a database system. Thus, NoteTaker automatically and transparently works behind the scenes to index and categorize notebooks full of information. If it's in NoteTaker, it can be searched and retrieved anytime.

Some highlights of the new enhancements in NoteTaker 1.1 include:
OPML (XML) support for exporting notebook content (works great with Radio UserLand for example)
RTF now supports native Word outline views for power users
Save to Web (a transparent program) now encompasses all multimedia attachments - one button notebook web site creation (especially useful for publishing web content to .Mac homepages in under 5 minutes or less)
 New keyboard controls for outlining
 More control over appearance settings
 Improved printing and output controls
Find and Replace with scoping preferences
Web Page Content - enhanced in-line web page viewing
Dynamic "intra" notebook drag and drop for quicker, easier assembly of notebooks
New To Do list look and feel (including check mark boxes for printing out lists to go)
New Template controls for faster replication across multiple pages
Updated Tool Tips for interactive hinting of features and functions

AquaMinds Mission
AquaMinds key mission is to design software products that exhibit more natural user interfaces for lifestyle computing. Meaning, everyday applications that are easy to understand yet powerful enough to accomplish sophisticated projects and work.

This design approach aims not only to eliminate unnecessary command states and confusing user modes but also to encourage experimentation and customization. Simply put, AquaMinds is focused on "mindful" design that strives to bring the most human interface as close to the surface as possible. Software that can be used every single day.
