Password Protect a Notebook
If you share your computer or are on a network where others can access your notebooks, you
can password-protect notebooks you don't want people to see (with 128-bit AES encryption). To
open a protected notebook, you then have to type the password.
Don't forget your password--you can't open a protected notebook without it. To make sure
you remember it, type a hint that you'll be sure to know, but no one else.
To create a password for a notebook, open the notebook, choose File > Password, type
(and re-type) a new password, make other optional settings, and click Set.
To change a password or settings, choose File > Password, type the current password in
the "Old password" field (so NoteTaker knows it's really you). Then type (and re-type)
a new password, or change other settings.
To remove a password, choose File > Password, type the current password, then delete
all text from the "New password" and "Re-type new password" fields.
WHAT ELSE?
To cover or uncover a notebook, use the Window > Cover command or the Cover tool.
Password protection also applies to copies of the notebook created using the Save To or Save As command,
backup copies NoteTaker makes automatically, and Page Folios, which are all protected using the same
password as the original notebook. Notebook attachments are not encrypted, unless you save a compressed
copy (.ntz) with the Save To or Email > Notebook command, or in Page Folios.
Password protection doesn't apply to Web Notebooks created from the notebook.
Notebooks encrypted using NoteTaker version 2.0 or later (or NoteShare 1.6 or later) can't be opened by
earlier versions of NoteTaker or NoteShare.
Type here only if the notebook
already has a password. Leave
blank to add a password for the
first time
The hint appears when anyone
tries to access the notebook with
the wrong password
Type a new password twice,
entering it exactly the same each
time. Note that uppercase
"GarageAttic" is different than
"garageattic"
Check this option, cover the
notebook when unattended,
and passerbys can't uncover
the notebook without the
password
